Kelly Vowels

Owner of Pixal-Rose Hair Design

Day to day, Kelly V is best known for cutting hair and working as a hairdresser in her very own salon in Swindon. As part of the vegan community, the journey goes much deeper and as one of the first vegan business owners in her home town, Kelly believes that ethics can easily fit into your life and that activism comes in many forms.

In 2018, Kelly opened the doors to Pixal-Rose Hair Design, Swindon’s first vegan hair salon, one of only a handful in the UK. Putting ethics in front of everything else, this pioneering new venture proved that great hair was possible without harming animals and in turn helped protect the planet. From the beginning it was clear that this was capturing the hearts of the local community and with the salon going from strength to strength, it soon began attracting the attention of national and local media. Kelly and the salon received recognition on BBC News, The Guardian Newspaper, Vegan Business Media and in the first year of trading was nominated for ‘Green Salon of the Year’

Fast forward to now and Kelly now has her own education company for hairdressers which works exclusively with vegan brands, has been involved with session styling and is getting ready to start her next venture – an online department store for alternative living.

And would you believe, this entire story began with a visit to Vegfest in London 2017.
