Karina found yoga over 12 years ago after becoming interested in Indian and Eastern Philosophy whilst at University in London. Studying ancient texts became a hobby and she was drawn to the Yoga practice. Although her practice was inconsistent initially, not fully understanding what the physical practice was all about but enjoying the challenge nevertheless, there was something about Yoga which kept her coming back. Karina discovered Ashtanga Yoga and fell in love straight away. Something about this method of practice resonated with her.

After developing a consistent practice, she found the many benefits of this wonderful lifestyle seeping into all areas of her life off the mat. Not only did she become physically stronger, more flexible and a better amateur triathlete, she found her yoga practice was having a positive effect on her mind; she became more focused, less stressed and happier overall.

After years of taking from yoga, Karina was compelled to start giving back, so decided to travel to India to study Ashtanga Yoga and gain her teaching qualification. Karina believes wholeheartedly in the science of yoga and wants to help spread the practice as far and as wide as she can.

Karina gained her 200 Hour Ashtanga Teacher Training qualification in Kerala, South India in 2016 and set up Raw Yoga Fitness & Wellness upon her return to the UK, where she now resides in Wolverhampton. She is an enthusiastic and passionate teacher who loves inspiring and supporting people on their journey to be the best versions of themselves. Suitable for all levels, her classes are popular, challenging and always fun.

Ashtanga Yoga with Karina

The Ashtanga method of asana practice originated in 1900s in the city of Mysore in India, and was developed by T. Krishnamacharya, who is considered as the father of modern Yoga.In Ashtanga Yoga, the order of asanas is entirely predefined, which distinguishes it from most other types of yoga. A practice consists of four parts: Opening series, a main series, a back-bending sequence and a finishing sequence.

This class is led by an experienced Ashtanga Yoga teacher, Karina. She is going to teach a dynamic, strong class, going through the fundamental asanas of Primary series. Beginning by connecting with the ujayii breath, students will move through the key asanas of primary series – sun salutations, standing, balances, seated, hip-openers, back bends and finishing.
