Food writer and demonstrator
Appearing on Sunday at 4pm in the Cookery Demos room
Steve was born in Calcutta, India during the last days of the Raj. His parents witnessed the massacre that was partition and decided then to return to the UK the land of their ancestors.
But as with all British and Anglo-Indian residents of the sub-continent they adapted some native Indian recipes and brought them half-way across the world with them.
Now Steve is happy to share these secrets with VegfestUK visitors.
Steve edits and writes for Friends’ Gazette an alternative lifestyle on-line magazine which covers vegan and vegetarian news as well restaurant reviews and recipes.
He has demonstrated vegan cooking to groups of friends and regularly cooks for vegan dinner parties and other culinary occasions. He has also held workshops on writing skills and video production. He is currently an associate producer on and action thriller movie.
A taster currently in post-production will go up on the internet for investment shortly.
Steve went to St Xaviour’s Roman Catholic school in Calcutta until he was 10 years old. After returning to England in 1959 with his parents he attended St Mary’s Roman Catholic primary school in Ipswich and went on from there to study for General Certificate of Education Ordinary Levels at Saffron Walden County High School, Saffron Walden, Essex.
Steve left school to train as a court reporter in London. He covered the High Court and the Oxford Circuit and Birmingham Quarter Sessions and Assizes, which later was re-vamped as Crown Courts which remain to this day.
He now edits Friends’ Gazette which covers a variety of alternative issues and food reviews and news.
Interests and hobbies
Steve believes all religions are saying the same thing. He now belongs to a meditation group which promotes inner spiritual progress through regular daily meditation.
A strict lacto-vegetarian diet has to be followed, alcohol and mind-bending drugs are banned and an upright and moral lifestyle are all recommended as pre-conditions for success in meditation.
His hobbies include reading up on philosophy, meta-physics, gurus and teachers, spirituality, yoga, meditation, vegetarianism and veganism. He likes walking, swimming and, of course, cooking!
He is a member of the London Vegetarian and Vegan Societies.
